Environmental Engineer

 

About the Role

As an Environmental Engineer, you are a key member of our remediation services team in developing and executing remediation strategies and activities for our clients. Reporting to a supervising engineer and working in the field as required, you will conduct air, soil, and groundwater sampling and testing at contaminated sites, feasibility assessments for site remediations, and design and monitor the implementation of soil and groundwater remediation systems. You will prepare assessment and design reports.  As the project engineer, you will review and seal technical reports for submission to clients and the regulating authorities.

 

Responsibilities

The core responsibilities of our environmental engineers include, but are not limited to:

•                  spill remediation

•                  asbestos and mould assessment and abatement

•                  air quality testing

•                  soil and groundwater testing/sampling

•                  construction/project management

•                  cost control and budget management

•                  site attendance with managerial and technical skills applied alongside government first responders

•                  regulatory reporting

•                  coordination with government ministries/departments (MECP, MTO, TSSA etc.).

 

As McEwen manages sites across Ontario, this position requires extensive travel, emergency response, and overnight postings.  A valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle are requirements for this position.

 

There are also times when a security clearance is required in order to gain access to a job site, necessitating a Criminal Background Check.

 

Your work may involve sensitive and physical approaches to site conditions, confined spaces, and heights. Successful completion of all worksite health and safety training appropriate for the position is mandatory and will be provided by the company as required.

 

About You

You are proficient in feasibility assessment, design and construction of soil and groundwater remediation systems, technical writing of design reports and the preparation of construction documents and specifications.

 

Our ideal candidate will:

•                  have completed a BSc degree in Civil/Chemical/Geological/Environmental Engineering

•               be eligible for licensing by Professional Engineers Ontario

•                  have a desire to learn and manage remediation feasibility studies, remedial investigation, detailed remedial design and planning, quantity and cost estimating, and preparation of construction documents and specifications

 

•             have working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations

•                  be comfortable obtaining experience in project management and the effective management of both field staff and contractors

•                  be proficient with engineering software applications and Microsoft Office

•                  demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to brief stakeholders on complex issues in a succinct manner; French would be an asset

•                  have a knowledge of the current Occupational Health & Safety Act

 

•                  have a positive, “can do” attitude

•                  relate well to clients and co-workers.
