Structural Engineer, Intermediate, P.Eng.

We are currently seeking a Structural Engineer licensed as a P.Eng. to practice in the Province of Ontario.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Forensics and Structural Design this is an excellent employment opportunity for the qualified person to complement our investigation services in our Mississauga location.

Our engineering team provides design services, including emergency structural stabilization direction to contractors, building permit designs for repair of existing buildings, and analysis of other structures governed by the Ontario Building Code.

Responsibilities
The core responsibilities of our structural engineers include, but are not limited to,:
    •    site evaluation
    •    building design
    •    component stability
    •    frame analysis
    •    construction/project management
    •    cost control and budget management
    •    computer analysis 
    •    coordination with building officials

This position requires work in the field to analyse, measure and evaluate reconstruction alternatives.  You will be reviewing and sealing technical reports for submission to clients and the regulating authorities.

Your work may involve sensitive and physical approaches to site conditions, confined spaces, and heights. Successful completion of all worksite health and safety training appropriate for the position is mandatory and will be provided by the company as required.

There may also be times when security clearance is necessary in order to gain access to a job site and so a Criminal Background Check may be conducted.

McEwen manages sites across Ontario and this position requires extensive travel, scheduled on-call response, and occasional overnight posting.  A valid Ontario driver’s and access to a personal vehicle is a requirement of this position. 
 

About You

Our successful candidate must be proficient in feasibility assessment, design and construction of buildings and structural components and frames, technical writing of design reports, preparation of construction documents, and assessment of structural specifications and drawings.

 The ideal candidate will have:
    •    5+ years holding a current licence to practice as a P.Eng. with Professional Engineers Ontario
    •    a degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (advanced degree(s) in structural analysis an asset)
    •    a working knowledge of SAP2000 or other similar structural design/analysis software 
    •    related experience and knowledge of applicable laws and regulations pertaining to building design and construction
    •    experience with the repair/renovation of older commercial/residential buildings, with insurance related claims being a particular asset
    •    knowledge of the requirements of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and in particular, Parts 3, 4, and 11 of the OBC and application of these requirements
    •    a working knowledge of the current Occupational Health & Safety Act
    •    experience in project management and effective management of field staff and contractors
    •    strong written and oral communication in English; French would be an asset.
